How to use Birthdays to get more referrals!
The Birthday referral system is a great way to get more referrals for your business. One of the best parts about the birthday referral system is that EVERYONE has a birthday, so every client, referral partner, or prospect can be used with this referral system.
Here is how the birthday referral system works.
What do most people do on their birthday? They go out to eat! And the average person takes 3 people with them!
Step #1: Find a restaurant that needs more business. This should be EVERY business in existence.
Step #2: Work out an agreement with them that you will pay for 1 meal, if the voucher card or gift card is redeemed. (note: Large chains and franchises probably will NOT go for this, but smaller businesses should be easier to set this up with). The restaurant should also like this because they don’t have to give away a single meal, and on average 3 more people will be eating with them. You may need to explain this to them, but just show them how many clients and birthdays you will be sending their way.
Step #3: On your clients, referral partners, or prospect’s birthdays you send them this voucher card to thank them for their business. In this voucher card you tell them how you much appreciate them and that dinner is on them!
Step #4: As soon as the restaurant bills you for the meal you call up this client, ask them if they enjoyed it, and then you ask them who else might need your services.
This works EXTREMELY well since it invokes the law of reciprocity. They will feel as if they “owe” you a referral. Now, if you are not comfortable in being this sneaky, here is another twist on it. Ask them who you might know that would like to be on your newsletter mailing list., You do have a newsletter, don’t you? A newsletter referral letter is a great referral system, which we will cover later!
This referral system is win-win for everyone involved. Another step you can do, if you are good at negotiating and can explain this to the restaurant, is getting the restaurant to pay for the “free meal.” You just need to explain to them that they will make more money since more people will be coming in and they are only giving away 1 free meal. And the other thing is they are not paying full retail cost, just their own costs. This can potentially save you money, but you may not want to begin with this.
You may want to just begin with the simple birthday referral system discussed above, and just pay for the 1 free meal. But be sure to set it up so you are only paying for the meals that are redeemed.
