How to ask for more referrals in your business.
Asking for referrals can be a tricky subject and difficult for people who are in business. Sometimes people feel that if they ask for referrals that they are being pushy or impolite.
This article will explain the mindset and several tactics you need to use to ask for more referrals.
Step #1: You must really believe that what you offer is very valuable to your clients. If you are conflicted or have doubt that what you offer to prospects is not valuable or of utmost importance — then if you ask for more referrals you will fail because you are not sincere in your belief.
This is called cognitive dissonance, and will lead you to struggle.
Step #2: You must have made an deposit in a referral bank account if you are going to ask for more referrals in your business. What do I mean? Quite simply it is much easier to ask for referrals if the person has received a gift or something from you.
Step #3: Before you ask for more referrals you need to remove any potential objects. How do you do this? Read this article here on removing objections to referrals.
Step #4: Be specific in who you ask for a referral from. Don’t just ask, “Do you know of anybody.” You need to ask a specific question.
Some of these questions are:
Who is your best friend?
Who can you call in the middle of the night if you had problems.
Who would help you move?
Who would help you if you get a flat tire.
Who would watch your kids?
Step #5: Confirm that there are no objections or worries that people have in giving you referrals. Once someone says that he or she would be completely comfortable in giving you referrals you are now reading to ask for the referrals.
Step #6: Move now to a referral marketing system that asks people on a regular basis for referrals. What is a referral marketing system? This site talks about dozens of referral marketing systems, but understand that there are many different options out there for you.
Step #7: Stay the course when asking for referrals. Realize that sometimes people won’t give you a referral because they really don’t know of anyone who will qualify for a referral or be a good referral.
Step #8: Reward positive behavior. Don’t reward bad behavior. If someone gives you a good referral then make sure to thank and “reward” that person. Send them a thank you gift if the referral you got was a good referrals. If the referral was not qualified, still thank the person but be sure to educate the person on what makes a good referral.
