Referrals. Are You Getting enough? No. You can always get more referrals. So how does one go about getting more referrals? You need to be thinking right now what is on everyone’s mind and thinking of how to enter that conversation in their mind. Here are a few ways to start:
Depending upon the time of the year there is always something that you can play off in order to enter the conversation in their mind. Just a few examples of topics, depending upon the time of year are:
- Back to school
- Thanksgiving, Christmas, 4th of July and other major holidays
- Vacation time
The list really goes on and on. What can you theme into your business right now so that you can get more referrals? Here’s an example of how you would incorporate a back to school theme into your referral marketing efforts:
Perhaps you can approach a local school and offer to put on a seminar or donate some time, goods or resources for their school or in their name to a charity if you can get involved in their school, their newsletter, etc. Of course this only makes sense if you have a product or service that can reach schools, those who work with schools, or those who would be seeing your marketing efforts through school publications.
In colder areas you can do something such as ‘coats for kids’ or something like that where you have a fundraising opportunity.
Remember, however, it is NOT just enough to be seen. You need to have a call to action for your referral marketing in order to get more referrals. Most of the time if someone just sees your business exists that is just not good enough. You need to spell out what they need to do if interested. You need to create a dynamic and compelling offer for them to BUY!
You need to understand that people are not actively buying or looking to buy what you sell most of the time. There are established relationships in place with your prospects and a lot of times your prospects know someone well and they may even “trust” that person. So you have to interrupt them (in a good way) and show that you have something worthwhile to offer. Then and only then can you have the chance to win referrals from them. So what can you be doing to stand out and take the place of your competitors in your prospect’s mind? Once you discover this you will be able to get more referrals, time and time again.
